Embodiment
Embodiment Overkill? Or Necessary Change?
Honestly, to the regular human what does embodiment mean?
I like to think of myself as a regular human and I am sick of this word.
When things become popular they can lose their impact and meaning(apart from avocados… they’re the exception).
Here’s my two cents on the embodiment craze sweeping the world right now.
Firstly... GOOD.
It’s about time we started remembering we have bodies.
Embodiment isn't about perfect posture or breathing like a lululemon yoga teacher. And you DEFINITELY don't need to crawl around on the floor to "claim your body" or pleasure-filled nature.
Embodiment builds on authenticity. It is about being fully present in your feelings NOW.and NOW.
and NOW.
Because somewhere along the way, we got trained out of feeling. We were taught that thoughts were superior.
That logic should lead.
That emotions were extra.
That sensitivity made you fragile.
Living THROUGH and WITH the body is the antidote. When we neglect the body: life feels monotonous and dull.
Embodiment means: "To Bring Through The Body"
Embodiment happens when you stop coping and start connecting.
To your belly.
To your bones.
To your actual experience - before your brain overrides and overthinks it.
And I believe sensitive women are here to lead us back.
Not in a loud, flashy way.
But through devotion to feeling deeply and honestly.
To being the ones who stay with it: sensation, beauty, grief, awe - when the world tries to rush past it.
You’re a reminder of what’s been lost.
And of what’s possible when we come home to the wisdom we were trained to ignore.
From birth, body was a home you enjoyed and trusted to recharge you.
For many women it becomes less of a priority, and sometimes even feels like an enemy.
Women have so much to fight against:
...beauty standards,
...shame around your cycle,
or size of the little bump under your belly button which houses your uterus 😐
None of this actually makes sense!
But it affects the way that many women feel about themselves. I know it did me, for most of my life!!
Yes, things are changing. But it’s time for MORE than change.
It’s time for an old kind of relationship with your body.
It’s time to return to:
healthy body image, without the sugarcoating
how your nervous system holds the key to self-love
pleasure, emotionality, sensitivity and how they’re allconnected
I’m NOT going to pretend that you don’t know how to look after your body.
I’m NOT going to tell you to eat healthy and to exercise.
But if you would like to learn more about the deeper practices here. I have a workshop series: Un-mute Your Body + Express From There.
It's available my The School For Sensitive Women now.
Love,
Em ♡
p.s. And for now, maybe just wiggle your toes and check in with the you that lives inside your skin. She’s still there. And she loves you.
